Description | Musa schizocarpa 'Schizocarpa' (doi:10.18730/9KW4W) (2n=22) is a wild species of banana native from New Guinea Island. The genetic signature of the species has been found in some banana cultivars. The genome sequence was obtained using Nanopore and optical mapping technologies leading to a chromosome-scale assembly that exhibited high contig N50s (>5 Mb). A total of 32 809 protein coding genes were predicted. Subsequently, the genome sequence underwent improvement with the release of version 2 of the genome assembly and gene annotation. The details of this research are documented in the upcoming publication: Martin G, Yahiaoui Nabila, Baurens FC, et al., 2024. "Genome Assemblies of Wild Contributors to Banana Cultivars Highlight Chromosome Evolution in the Musa Lineage" (submitted). The genome sequencing of this species is the result of the collaboration between the French sequencing center Genoscope and CIRAD. The project was financially supported by France Génomique in the Dynamo project. An improved version (v2) is proposed in the upcoming publication: Martin G, Istace B, et al., 2024. "Chromosome evolution in Musa species: Insights from genome assemblies of wild contributors to banana cultivars" (in review). |
