Common Name | M. textilis |
Description | Musa textilis (PT-BA-00228) is an important industrial crop cultivated mainly in Philippines, Ecuador and Costa Rica (TT, belongs to section Australimusa). Abaca fibers are considered as one of the strongest among natural fibers, a highly valued agro-based biodegradable material with superior mechanical properties, and nowadays are extensively applied to textile, paper products and multiple automotive products. The basic chromosome number is x=10 (2n=2x=20). This genome assembly was generated using Illumina and ONT data. This project was led by CIRAD and Genoscope. The details of this research are documented in the upcoming publication: Martin G, Istace B, et al., 2024. "Chromosome evolution in Musa species: Insights from genome assemblies of wild contributors to banana cultivars" (in review). |
